KTVW Univision 33 Claims the #1 Ranking in Total Day, Daytime, Early Fringe, and Local News at 5 p.m and 10 p.m. in the May 2011 Sweep, Regardless of Language


PHOENIX, AZ – May 26, 2011 – The results of the competitive May 2011 sweep are in with KTVW Univision 33 once again delivering top ratings and claiming the leading position as the #1 television station in Phoenix among Adults 18-49, regardless of language. In the May 2011 sweep, KTVW Univision 33 averaged 24,000 Adults 18-49 in Total Day (Monday–Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.), out delivering second-ranked KSAZ-FOX by 3,000 viewers, third-ranked KPNX-NBC by 6,000 viewers, and fourth-ranked KNXV-ABC by 7,000 viewers. 

Results from the Nielsen Station Index (NSI) confirm KTVW Univision 33’s leadership position in various dayparts among key demographic groups, including Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Persons 2-17. KTVW Univision 33 is the only TV station in the Phoenix market that can claim the #1 rank in Total Day (Monday-Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.) for the past 38 consecutive measurement periods among Adults 18-34 and Persons 2-17 and 32 non-consecutive measurements periods among Adults 18-49.


Highlights by Daypart:


  • KTVW is the most-watched television station in Phoenix in Total Day (Monday-Sunday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.) among Adults 18-34, Adults 18-49 and Persons 2-17; and second most-watched among Adults 25-54, regardless of language. 


  • Among the Valley’s major broadcasters, KTVW was one of the top two most-watched stations in primetime 22 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-34, 21 of the 28 nights among Adults 18-49, and 20 of the 28 nights among Persons 2-17.


  • KTVW’s early local newscast, “Noticias 33” (News 33) at 5:00 p.m., was the most-watched newscast Monday-Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, delivering more viewers than ABC and NBC’s local newscasts combined among Adults 18-34. Among Adults 18-49, “Noticias 33” delivered 19,000 more viewers than KPHO’s “CBS 5 News at 5P”; 18,000 more viewers than KNXV’s “ABC 15 News at 5P”; 13,000 more viewers than KPNX’s “12 News Evening Edition at 5P”; 8,000 more viewers than KTVK’s “Good Evening Arizona 1”; and 1,000 more viewers than KSAZ’s “FOX 10 News at 5.”


  • At 10:00 p.m. “Noticias 33” continues to deliver more viewers than any other competing newscast among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49 during the Monday-Friday 10:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. time period.  KTVW’s late local newscast leads KPNX’s “12 News at 10” by +79% and +13%; KNXV “ABC 15 News at 10” by +92% and +66%; KPHO’s “CBS 5 News at 10” by +127% and +130%; and KSAZ’s “FOX 10 News at 10” by +127% and +83% among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, respectively.


  • In Mornings (Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.), Univision’s “Despierta America” (Wake-Up America) has a +25% and +50% ratings lead over ABC’s “Good Morning America” among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 respectively.  “Despierta America” also has a strong ratings lead over CBS’s “Early Show 1” (+150% and +100%) and “Early Show 2” (+400% and +200%) among Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, respectively. 


  • In Daytime (Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), Univision is the #1 choice for viewers of all ages, with a +300% lead among Persons 2-17, a +125% lead among Adults 18-34, a +100% lead among Adults 18-49, and a +17% lead among Adults 25-54 over the second highest ranked station in daytime (ABC among Persons 2-17, CBS among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, and FOX among Adults 25-54). 


  • Univision’s “Mar de Amor” (Sea of Love) was the most-watched program in Daytime among all Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Persons 2-17, out delivering CBS’ “Young and the Restless” and “The Price Is Right”; NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” and “Regis and Kelly”; FOX’s “TMZ” and “Wendy Williams”; and ABC’s “General Hospital” and “The View.”


  • In Early Fringe (Monday-Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.), Univision’s “Primer Impacto” (First Impact) was the most-watched program in the time period among Adults 18-34 and Adults 18-49, tying KTVK’s “Oprah” among Adults 25-54.  KTVK’s “Inside Edition,” NBC’s “Ellen,” ABC’s “Jeopardy,” and CBS’s “People’s Court” were all topped by Univision’s “Primer Impacto.”
