9:30 – 10:30 WORKSHOP SESSION I

A. BREAST CANCER PREVENTION

Dr. Edgardo Rivera, Medical Director, Banner MD Anderson

Cancer Center, will lead this bilingual session on breast cancer

prevention.

B. PUBLIC SAFETY

Mesa Police Chief Frank Milstead and his staff lead this discussion

on public safety in our community, with a particular emphasis on

the impact of recent legislation.

C. DECODING THE BALLOT

Alberto Olivas, Director of Maricopa Community College District’s

Center for Civic Participation, leads this presentation on the many

ballot propositions voters will encounter this November. Know

before you vote!

D. DREAMERS IN OUR MIDST

An original performance by James E. Garcia, playwright, and our

own Mesa young people this original performance places the

spotlight on Arizona’s unique history and the connection between

Raul Castro, Arizona’s first Latino Governor the original dreamer,

and our current dreamer students.

10:45 – 11:45 WORKSHOP SESSION II

E. GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER PREVENTION

Dr. Matt Schlumbrect, Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center will

lead this bilingual session on gynecological cancer prevention.

F. PUBLIC SAFETY

Mesa Police Chief Frank Milstead and his staff lead this discussion,

in Spanish, on public safety in our community, with a particular

emphasis on the impact of recent legislation.

G. CANDIDATE FORUM

Alberto Olivas, Director of Maricopa Community College District’s

Center for Civic Participation, moderates this forum for candidates

running for public office this November including legislative

districts in Mesa, Mesa Public School and Maricopa Community

College Governing Board. Know before you vote!

H. LATINO LEADERSHIP

This session features a panel discussion on how to take advantage

of leadership opportunities and develop your own leadership style

and move ahead in any organization. Panelists include: Dr. Maria

Harper Marinick, Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost of Maricopa

Community College District; Eloy Garza, Mesa Police Department;

Genessee Montes, Mesa Public School Elementary Principal;

Imelda Romero, Philanthropic & Leadership Program Coordinator
